About AVIP

Hi and thanks for visiting!  I’m Nikki, a 29 year old recent college graduate and full time office manager.

I transitioned to a vegan diet in the summer of 2013, due in large part to my extremely well educated and compassionate sister, Allison.  There were many years of me being unwilling to consider the potential health and environmental benefits of a vegan diet, not to mention the plight of factory farmed animals.  Honestly, I didn’t want to confront the truth because I was pretty sure my sister was right in her choices and wasn’t confident that I could make those changes for myself.  One day changed everything when I asked her to tell me more.  The reason it got through to me that time as opposed to the many other times she tried talking to me and my family members about it was that I was asking to be enlightened.  I believe that everyone should make their own decisions about what will work in their lives and that gruesome images and peer pressure never work in the long term.  I think it’s really important to be there with information and compassion so that when people are ready and opening their minds, they can decide for themselves to make changes and live more in tune with their convictions.  I thank Allison for being there for me and our other sister, Sammi, in that way.  She has also helped our parents to be vegetarians with a strongly plant-based diet.

Here you will find vegan recipes, product reviews and restaurant reviews as I explore what a happy, healthy, and kind life means to me.  Everything about the vegan lifestyle is new to me, so I am the opposite of an expert.  I am using this blog as a journal as much as I am using it to share my journey.  Please share what you think and ask questions if you like.  Thanks for stopping by!
