Vegan at Tony’s Darts Away, Burbank – Post 3

I have already talked about Tony’s Darts Away, but I thought that I could do multiple reviews of restaurants as I make subsequent visits.  Click here to see previous posts about Tony’s Darts Away.

My sister and I went on an impromptu shopping trip to Unique Vintage in Burbank.  If you like vintage and vintage reproduction clothes, you can’t get any cuter than Unique Vintage.  I have purchased a few dresses at Bettie Page before and the pale in comparison when it comes to quality.

After a successful shopping trip, we went over to Tony’s Darts Away, which is mere blocks away.  This time I ordered the Vegan Border Dog: a vegan Mexican chipotle sausage topped with garlic paste, Mexican salsa, avocado lime puree, and raw onions.  The flavors went really well together and it was less dry than the Italian Stallion Sausage.

Vegan at Tony’s Darts Away, Burbank – Post 2

I have already talked about Tony’s Darts Away, but I thought that I could do multiple reviews of restaurants as I make subsequent visits.  Click here to see previous posts about Tony’s Darts Away.

When looking for a low key, but fun night out with our friend Jessica before her impending move out of state, we chose to go back to Tony’s Darts Away.  Like I said before, I really like the ambiance, the food options, and the staff.

We ordered Disco Fries (like Poutine fries if you have ever heard of those), Buffalo Wedges (not on the online menu), and I tried a Vegan Italian Stallion Sausage.

The Disco Fries are described as fries covered in gravy and Daiya Cheddar Cheese.  I believe the Daiya that we got was Mozzarella rather than Cheddar, but I don’t think it made much of a difference.  The gravy was cold and the whole thing was inedible.  I won’t be ordering this side again.

The Buffalo Wedges are always winners, but then again, I love buffalo sauce.  These went fast because everyone liked them.

Next was the Vegan Italian Stallion Sausage, which was a vegan Italian sausage topped with brown mustard, griddled onions, and griddled peppers.  It was a little dry (I didn’t detect much mustard), but really tasty.  The peppers were cooked very well.  I don’t think I’m likely to want a full meal here often, but it’s good to know that there’s a solid option.

We sipped our drinks, shared some food, chatted, and played Cards Against Humanity.  If you haven’t played it before and you have a bit of a sick sense of humor, it is loads of fun.  It seems like something you could only play with close friends, but we have played with our parents and even Eric’s grandma, so it really just depends on the company.

It was a great way to say goodbye to our good friend Jessica.  She’s on to new and exciting things!

For my youngest sister’s 21st birthday, we all got together and did a little bar hopping (if you can call hopping from one bar to a second bar a night of bar hopping).  We arranged to have two designated drivers – safety first – so that no one would have to worry about getting home safely.

We started at The Blue Room in Burbank (where they make a damn fine Cable Car) and then went to Tony’s Darts Away.  I had never been to Tony’s before, but I really liked it.  First of all, it was a really casual atmosphere – free of pretension.  They have a good sense of humor (they were able to put up with our ridiculous selves) and a heavy pour (I ended up with clearly more than 6 oz. of “Not Beer” in my glass).

They had all kinds of board games on bookshelves, plenty of seating, and a pool table.  We were getting drunk at this point, so Trivial Pursuit was pretty fun.  Anyway, since the birthday girl and her two sisters are vegan, we ordered some vegan appetizers for the table.  I got a chance to try the seitan buffalo strips (not on their online menu) and really loved them.  They were loaded with buffalo sauce and very spicy.

I had no idea that Tony’s Darts Away, Mohawk Bend, and Golden Road Brewery were owned by the same guy: Tony Yanow.  He’s like the vegan king of LA or something.

It’s nice to know of a casual bar not too far away where you can get drinks and vegan food that won’t put you in the poorhouse.  Non-vegan folks also have a ton to choose from as well.  We will definitely be back.
